Historic Mineral Colors Resurrecting colors used throughout the ages.

These beautiful colors are made with pigments used by the Old Masters. These colors have a subtlety that contrasts well with vibrant modern pigments. Completely lightfast, they are also beautiful used just with each other.

Historic Mineral colors create wonderful atmospheric effects in your paintings. As lightfast and durable as their long history suggests, they provide a tangible link with our artistic heritage.

Minerals are heavy and these colors squeeze out onto your palette differently from anything you've ever used. They are thick like honey. Simply add water and the consistency becomes very workable.

Due to the nature of the pigment involved, extra care must be used when producing a watercolor paint out of these minerals. Each one seems to have its own unique working characteristics. Ground from semi-precious stones and other natural rocks and minerals, they have a much larger particle size than most of our modern watercolors.

These exceptional paints must be ground with the utmost care as to not break the crystalline structure in some, nor to cause muddiness in others. The Batchmakers take extra pride in producing each of these historic colors. Because the pigment particles are both large and less inherently colorful than the tiny, brilliant particles in many modern synthetic organic paints, colors are comparitively pale and subtle - but quite beautiful in their own right.
